An angry Albany Mayor Thomas M. Whalen III admitted Tuesday that he parked improperly in a zone reserved for the handicapped during an awards presentation the night before, but said television stations took a cheap shot by doing stories on the incident.
Advocates for the disabled, however, said the attention was well-deserved, terming the mayor's mistake "a poor example" and saying the coverage showed "no one is above the law."
