NSW: Rees shelved $9bn roads plan to prevent tunnelling

SYDNEY, Feb 24 AAP - NSW premier Nathan Rees shelved a $9-billion roads plan to address

Sydney's transport and congestion problems after Labor Party officials intervened to
prevent tunnelling under sensitive electorates.

Former NSW roads minister Eric Roozendaal and former transport minister John Watkins
had approved the Sydney Link Motorways plan, a three-tunnel network linking Sydney's west
to the city and airport, according to a confidential cabinet briefing paper obtained by
