NSW: Greengrocer paid greyhound steward not to swab dogs
An inquiry's heard a greengrocer paid a New South Wales greyhound racing official $5,000
to ensure the dogs he was backing didn't get tested for performance enhancing drugs.
ANDY SARCASMO, from Rockdale in Sydney's south, told the Independent Commission Against
Corruption he gave NSW chief steward RODNEY POTTER two payments of $3,000 and $2,000.
The commission heard the money came from MR SARCASMO's winnings for betting on a dog
called Mel's Fancy, trained by greyhound identity RAY KING.
At first MR SARCASMO said he'd paid the money out of the goodness of his heart, because
MR POTTER's home had been broken into.
But under cross examination, he later admitted the money was handed over so that dogs
of Mr KING's he was betting on wouldn't be swabbed for drugs.
The inquiry is continuing.
