A unknown painting by a celebrated 19th century Scottish artist which was discovered in America has gone on sale for pounds 95,000. The Shepherd, by Edward Arthur Walton, was returned to Britain after an art dealer found it in a small town on the east coast of the US.
Walton was one of a group of Scottish artists who studied at the Glasgow School of Art in the late 19th century and were dubbed the Glasgow Boys. The painting was identified by Edinburgh art dealer and gallery owner Emily Walsh, who first came across it on the internet.
